Millenial of the AI Generation
Sam Castillo is a data science professional and AI strategist with a background in predictive analytics, machine learning, and large-scale data processing. His expertise lies in transforming complex datasets into actionable insights, helping businesses make smarter decisions through automation and advanced modeling.
His journey began at UMass Amherst, acheiving a 3.9 GPA in mathematics. Then after two internships, he worked for Willis Towers Watson in Boston, leveraging machine learning and cloud computing at the scale of hundreds of terabytes for clients in the airline and hospitality industries. He later refined his predictive modeling skills at Milliman IntelliScript in Chicago, specializing in data-driven risk assessment.
After launching his own data science consulting venture, Sam gained hands-on entrepreneurial experience—facing the challenges that come with building a startup but also sharpening his technical and strategic expertise. Doing consultiing for Data Science Talent Limited with the major pharma company Boehringer Ingelheim, securing Startup Program membership at Capital Factory and collaboring with business mentors and other startup founders, he grew his Actuarial Teaching business to six figures. This led him to Expedia Group in Austin, Texas, where he worked with exabyte-scale travel data, mastering automation, predictive modeling, and large-scale data infrastructure.
Sam is a versatile leader in the tech industry, with deep experience in data analytics, AI, and modern software engineering. His work focuses on building intelligent systems that validate, process, and transition data across various formats—including numbers, text, images, and video. Whether optimizing business decisions, streamlining workflows, or pioneering AI-driven solutions, his mission is to harness the power of data to drive innovation and impact.

Why I Wanted A Career as an Actuary
The future is uncertain and full of risk. Risk is the chance that an undesirable event will occur, but risk is also opportunity. That’s where we come in.

•Designing creative ways to reduce the likelihood of undesirable events.

The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Taking the first Exam P back in 2017 while in undergraduate was unforgetable, and the next exams came quicker with FM and MFE. Then STAM and PA, which were knocked out within two weeks of each other, though was studying for two exams at once. The VEE were completed as well which leaves just the e-Learning materials, Advanced Topics in Predictive Analytics, and the Seminar for Associateship Professionalism course. Also, the E-learning for Pre-Actuarial Foundations. Much of this was taught at the Undergraduate and Gamma Iota Sigma fraternity though this will be straight-forward to complete.
